Croatia is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. Its stunning nature attracts millions of tourists and nature lovers every year.
There are many parks in Croatia, but the oldest and the largest among them is Plitvice Lakes National Park.
One of the advantages of the park is the location. It is situated in the area full of mountains. To be more precise, it lays between Mala Kapela and Lička Plješivica mountain ranges.
The park opened its doors to visitors in 1949. And now the total area covers more than 296.85 square kilometers.
The UNESCO World Heritage added Plitvice Lakes National Park to its register in 1979.
What makes it famous?
As you may notice the name of the park contains the word Lakes, and these lakes arranged into a series of cascades, are the main attraction of the Plitvice Lakes National Park.
There are 16 big lakes with their own names and a couple of smaller lakes without any names.
They are all divided into two parts the Upper and Lower lakes
What makes these lakes unique is the color.
It is better to say that colors as the lakes can range from green to blue or grey.
And the colors are not permanent.
The colors may vary due to the amount of organisms or minerals in the water and seasons of the year.
Also, the position of the sun in the sky and the angle of rays play a great role in the color formation of the lakes.
However, if you come up closer to the water you will find out that the water is completely transparent as the source begins high in the mountains.
You can see a lot of fish through the crystal water. And some of them are really fat.
Unfortunately, swimming is prohibited in this area.
Do you like hiking?
The Plitvice Lakes National Park welcomes guests during the whole year.
If you want to have more time for hiking it is better to visit it in summer for longer opening hours.
There are about 4 hiking routes and 7 more tours to the lake system.
Do not worry if the weather is rainy, it is still a great place and there are a lot of things to see there.
The territory of the park is pretty big, so you can spend all day long walking around.
It is better to go in the morning as there are fewer people during the early hours.
Beautiful and mesmerizing scenery – these are the most frequent words that you can hear from tourists who were in Plitvice Lakes National Park.
You cannot leave Croatia without visiting this park. So plan your next trip to Croatia and include other places of interest in this wonderful country.
Also, Prepare a good pair of sneakers as you will have to walk much and sometimes the road is uneven.
